FAQ’s

What makes you qualified to help me?

David has 20 years of experience doing pastoral counseling with couples and individuals. He understands relationships and has helped many couples on their journey to oneness. He has given marriage and parenting seminars for churches. And he is Gottman certified for levels 1 and 2.

Lia is a licensed marriage and family therapist with almost 20 years of experience counseling couples, families and individuals.

What is the difference between counseling and coaching?

They both overlap in many ways with a few subtle differences. They both aim to help the couple or individual reach their goals. However coaching tends to rely on a wellness model. Coaching is all about moving forward and making progress and growing.  Therapy uses the medical model – – fixing something that is wrong.

If you or your spouse is dealing with a mental diagnosis then therapy would be a better way to go. If there is no diagnosis then either would be fine.

What makes you different from any other counselor or coach?

David is a pastor of over 20 years. So if you want a Christian coach who you can trust is solid in their faith, he would be a great fit. People have said that he is insightful and also funny. So in terms of the client’s experience, it should be a relaxed and enriching one. Many clients are fearful talking to a professional because they are fearful that they will be judged or that it will be boring or intense. David’s philosophy is to use humor and insight to help his clients achieve their goals. You won’t find him preaching to you or judging you. He will meet you where you are at and guide you to where you want to be.

Reviews

We loved that David's approach was 100% tailored-fit to our needs (i.e. not a cookie-cutter program). David addressed our specific concerns and uncovered blindspots in a reassuring and approachable way. You could tell that David is a great listener by the questions he asked. We came out of every session feeling challenged and hopeful. We have been married for 5 years and are still going strong!

David helped us learn how to work through our differences and also how to communicate better. We actually even had a fight in front of him (not planned btw) that was very embarrassing but ended up being so helpful as he coached each of us on how we could better support the other person during these times - and together we came up with a game plan that we still use today when we fight. He even pointed out certain tendencies we had and also certain triggers so we could identify them. We're thankful for him and our marriage is stronger today because of our time with David.\\
